the electric city car of the (distant) future?

What do you get when you add containment frustration, video game inspiration, and an electric city car? The MG Maze concept!

During the various lockdowns that hit the British, design studios brainstormed hard. This is particularly the case of SAIC Design, the English studio of MG, who took the opportunity to imagine the urban car of the future. Specifically, the designers sought to rediscover the world of video games in this electric car of the future.

From the outside, the gaze is immediately guided inward, via a large plexiglass window. It is also the only door, which opens forward to let in its passengers. For the rest, the large wheels are rejected at all four corners, with proportions that are not unlike a Toyota Yaris, for example. The rear is very elaborate, with a 3D effect light strip which surrounds the MG logo.

But it is therefore inside that this MG Maze is the craziest. Indeed, the SAIC Design studio has thought this concept as a video game environment first of all. On the dashboard are also the components of a computer, and no steering wheel is available: you will have to be content with a controller, or your smartphone!

A treasure hunt game!

And if this MG is called Maze (labyrinth, in French), it is no coincidence: its impressive interface, which projects information in 3D in front of the occupants, is based around a game of treasure hunting. Players / drivers will then be able to hunt objectives in the city, to achieve higher scores and gain new levels. In short, a concept that we feel really inspired by a certain frustration linked to confinements, and the real boom in video games that followed.

This MG Maze Will it inspire a future electric city car for the Sino-British brand? The little MG 3, which is already 10 years old and not available in France, is still awaiting a descendant. However, we can bet that this will be very far from the future sci-fi of the MG Maze.
