more than 100,000 sales in Europe

The Korean manufacturer has reached a symbolic milestone in Europe, with the sale of more than 100,000 copies of the Hyundai Kona Electric.

Since its launch in 2018, the Hyundai Kona Electric was elapsed at more than 142,000 copies worldwide, dont over 100,000 in Europe alone. The zero-emission variant of Hyundai’s urban SUV represents one in four Kona sold, and in some markets in the Old Continent, this share even reaches more than 50% as in Germany, where electric vehicles are growing strongly.

To date, the 100% electric range of the Korean manufacturer also includes the Hyundai Ioniq Electric, or the new Ioniq 5 recently unveiled, and that’s without counting on the Hyundai Nexo, which runs on hydrogen. By 2025, the Hyundai lineup will include a dozen electric models battery-powered, with the aim of selling more than 560,000 copies per year. The HMG group (Hyundai Motor Group) will then offer a range of 23 100% electric models, from the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands, which will allow it to exceed the mark of one million copies sold each year.

Hyundai Kona Electric: up to 484 kilometers of range

The Hyundai Kona Electric has two choices of electric powertrains: a Long Range version, with a 64 kWh battery allowing a range of 484 kilometers, as well as a Standard version with a 39.2 kWh battery and a range of 305 kilometers. The Korean SUV even broke fuel consumption records, driving 1.026 km with a single charge on the German Lausitzring circuit.

Since March 2020, the Kona Electric is produced in Europe within the group’s plant in the Czech Republic, which thus completes the production site in Ulsan, South Korea. Hyundai’s European plant aims to become the group’s first plant to switch to 100% renewable energy, starting in 2022.
