The production version of Smart’s future urban SUV will be close to the concept car presented at the Munich show last month.
At the Munich Motor Show this year, Smart foreshadowed the renewal of its brand with an urban SUV concept car, the Smart Concept # 1: if its final name is not yet known, the future 100% electric model should, for its production version, using the futuristic yet curvaceous lines of the concept.
The first images of Smart’s future SUV have already leaked onto the internet, thanks to details of a patent filing.
With these first images, we find the clean and futuristic style of Concept # 1, however some differences : for example, the front bumper has a plate holder in the center of its grille, all complemented by two side air intakes, while the mirrors adopt larger dimensions than those of the concept.
From flush door handles appear, and their completely conventional position betrays the presence of doors with conventional opening, unlike the concept car which had antagonistic doors. At the rear, there are also some new elements such as a license plate holder as well as reflectors on the rear apron. However, the model retains its floating roof, with fluid lines and ending with Smart medallions located on the rear quarter panels.
Resting on the modular platform SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) that it shares with the future Volvo XC20, Smart’s first urban SUV is planned in Europe for the during the year 2023. It will be produced in China, by the joint venture resulting from the alliance between the Chinese Geely and Daimler.
