all the regions concerned in 2022!

Tremble, drivers! Private radar cars will be rolled out across the entire metropolitan area… Starting next year.

The government had announced it: private radar cars will be present throughout the country … in 2023. Note that the reality will be even harsher since the four regions spared so far will be tested from next year. All this in order to start the verbalization of these territories as quickly as possible.

Four more regions

Those unmarked vehicles with on-board radar already circulating in 4 regions since last year: Normandy, Brittany, Pays-de-la-Loire and Center-Val de Loire. This summer, four other regions joined the circle: Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Radar cars that have just arrived cannot yet ticket and will be ready from 2022.

It was not enough for the Home Office which broke the news this morning. Four additional regions will welcome these privatized models next year: Ile-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Occitanie. Thus, the entire territory will be squared not to mention Corsica. The island has not yet given its agreement regarding the presence of companies on its soil.

Radars are less profitable!

The new regions including Paris and its suburbs will have to wait for a call for tenders and the providers chosen before starting the testing phase. Because the radar cars

are being privatized since 2018 where it all started in Normandy. According to figures from Road Safety in August 1, 2021, 202 vehicles were driven by the police, 183 by private operators. And it is not a coincidence since road speed camera revenue is dropping constantly.

According to an estimate by the Ministry of the Interior, road radars should report € 714 million in 2022. It is much less than 2019 where the receipts amounted to 760 million euros for example. But the arrival of these invisible and moving roadside checks is sure to scare off motorists in a bit of a hurry.

The total fleet of radar cars is expected to reach 450 vehicles at the end of 2021 indicated the Road safety. The goal would be to reach 400 private radar cars by the end of 2022, almost double what already exists today.
