around sixty abandoned taxis discovered

This old hangar located in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil has its share of surprises. Several dozen taxis were discovered there, nearly thirty years after being put there.

A new barn exit comes to us today from Brazil, in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro. A sixty taxis were discovered, drowned in dust and abandoned for almost thirty years. While previously roaming the streets of Brazil’s second largest city, they were put away less than three years after being put into service.

The latter faced a law put in place by the city’s municipal transport department. It was in 1995. Since then they have never left this shed.

Legal conflict

They previously belonged to ” Taxi King », Nickname given to brazilian taxi baron of the time Pascoal Da Silva Rego, since deceased. He battled for decades to be able to recover them and put them on sale. But the latter clashed with the courts which, looking into the study of the case, blocked the transaction until further notice.

Here, more than 25 years after the events, justice finally authorized the sale of taxis, allowing the descendants of the Taxi King to to extract from this barn where they were held captive.

100% made in Brazil vehicles

The vehicles in question, although they have driven very little, however very kilometers. They at the time traveled between 150 and 170 km per day (the scales in Brazil are very different from ours).

Mixture of Chevrolet Chevette, Volkswagen Gol (the equivalent for us of an extended Polo) and Chevrolet Corsa (Opel Corsa at home), all wear their original characteristic yellow livery, and are still equipped with their taximeter. Even if they are in bad shape, attacked by rust and dirt, no doubt they should find buyers. Buyers eager to afford a little piece of the history of Rio de Janeiro in their garage.
