Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R: new American tracker!

This Corvette will meet you at Le Mans in 2024. It is nothing less than the replacement for the current Corvette C8.R, victim of the scheduled end of the GTE category.

Fans of endurance racing in general and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in particular are familiar with racing Chevrolet Corvettes. With their thunderous V8s, the American trackers grind the bitumen of the Sarthois route for almost 20 years. But now, the days of the current Corvette C8.R are numbered: the GTE category will disappear in 2024. Too expensive, it will be replaced, at Le Mans as in the rest of the WEC world endurance championship, by the most common GT3.

Enough to lose the famous yellow Corvettes at the 24 Hours? It’s not knowing Corvette Racing, one of the most loyal teams in the race. To prepare for the succession, Chevrolet has therefore already worked on a GT3 version of his supercar. Better: the manufacturer takes the opportunity to surf the presentation of the Corvette Z06, a more extreme version of the American sports car. Here is the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R.

The first Corvette for gentlemen drivers!

This Corvette Z06 GT3.R is, for the first time in the history of Corvette in endurance, intended for both professional pilots and “gentlemen drivers”.

Understand by this these wealthy amateurs who are lucky enough to be able to afford a racing seat. Until then, Corvette’s presence in Endurance had been limited to factory cars. Corvette is also the last major manufacturer to do so. Porsche, Ferrari, or Aston Martin, all offer their cars for sale to private teams. This will also be the case for the GT3 version of the Corvette, therefore.

In details, this Corvette Z06 GT3.R is technically close to the GTE version, the C8.R. We find the V8 5.5 L, derived from that of the road Z06. The whole will develop between 500 and 600 hp, based on the Balance of Performance, which ensures that performance is equivalent between the different cars in the category.

For the rest, almost everything is developed for racing: suspensions, gearbox, brakes, rims, interior, and of course the bodywork developed in a wind tunnel. Unlike the GTE version, we find some details taken from the road Z06, like the design of the side air intakes and the shield.
