Charade Monza: a little-known French sportswoman!

Have you ever heard of the Charade Monza? This 90s kitcar has only been produced in 10 copies. To return to the origin of the Charade Monza, we have to go back to 1986, the year when the engineer Pierre Foissotte and some car enthusiasts began to think about the development of an ideal and inexpensive sports car.

No one really knows who designed this vehicle, but the fact remains that its design is very typical “eighties” and is inspired by the MVS Venturi. As for the doors, they only have a small descending part like the Lamborghini Countach. In 1989, a trading company named Charade Automobile SA is created in Clermont-Ferrand and a prototype de la Monza is exhibited at Paris Salon 1989.

Difficult beginnings

Due to lack of time, the showcar that sits on the brand’s stand is not finished and does not have all of its mechanical components. In the end, the “good old” engine block of the Peugeot 205 GTI was chosen. With 130 hp, it is placed in rear central position.

The following year, it finally moved to the front and a convertible version was presented. For lack of sufficient interest, the makers of the brand make Monza a kitcar that can be built on a base VW

air cooled or Peugeot.

Sold any climb more expensive than a 205 GTI new, it made a mega flop and the adventure quickly ended in 1993. For the anecdote, the car continued its career in Indonesia under another brand !

Scarcity

It’s on the site The good corner that we have found a copy that appears to be in good condition. You only have to see the low mileage displayed on the odometer: only 600 km. However, nothing mentions whether it rolls or not. Equipped with a rather awkward looking polyester body, this abortive sports car leaves a mixed feeling. Will she find an amateur who will be seduced by her story? That’s all we wish for him…
