As unlikely as it may seem, it will be more interesting to buy a Ford Mustang GT in 2022 than in 2021! We explain …
This is – small – good news for future buyers of Ford Mustang in France. Or at least for those who are seriously considering buying the legendary American V8 engine.
While the sports cars are handicapped by a huge penalty for next year, capped at € 40,000 from 224 g / km of C02 discharge, the Ford model falls through the cracks!
Yes, you read that right, this is the Ford Mustang GT, with his big V8 engine from 5 liters who will see its penalty to drop in 2022.
To understand, we must refer to the new penalty grid concerning CO2 emission rates. above all, you must read the fine print. Beyond the exploding penalties, a new rule has been added: the maximum amount of the tax may not exceed 50% of the vehicle price including VAT. In practice, this is therefore only valid for vehicles sold for less than € 80,000.
But if we look at all the sports models exceeding the 224 g / km threshold – and which will automatically see their penalty increase by € 10,000 – very few cars will really benefit from it. The Kia Stinger GT
for example, offered to € 63,390 without penalty, will escape the 40,000 € of taxes even with its 279 g / km of Co2 released. Its current penalty being € 30,000, it will drop “only” to € 31,695 next year. But a model does even better …
The case of the American, arrived in our French concessions in 2018, is special. Offered to € 52,400 excluding penalty, the new 50% rule is a game changer!
As the model is billed for less than € 80,000, the super penalty of € 40,000 does not apply! But what is even more interesting is that the penalty for next year will be lower than this year thanks to this new formula.
After a quick calculation, here’s what a Mustang GT Fastback with the 10-speed automatic gearbox from 2022: 52,400 (vehicle price) + 26,200 (2022 malus) = 78 600 €. This new amount thus represents a savings of € 3,800 against the 82,400 € requested today. And even if the difference is not particularly huge, it is still taken. Enough to pay you indirectly for insurance and fuel for a while!
