This Tesla Model Y, we have been waiting for it for a long time! the SUV, derived from the Model 3 sedan, was launched in 2019 in the United States, but is barely coming to Europe today. Blame it on a production that put some time to gain momentum, while waiting in particular for the opening of the Gigafactory in Berlin. So, was it worth the wait? The answer in our video essay :
The Tesla Model Y borrows a lot from the Model 3. We therefore find an almost identical interior presentation. The set is very minimalist, with the only furniture a very large screen central, which brings together all of the information. As usual with Tesla, it is very readable, responsive, and comprehensive. The counterpoint is that the almost all of the functions are there, from the management of the windshield wipers to the opening of the glove box. All of this, of course, requires some acclimatization time, and can be a little frustrating at times.
On the other hand, the level of finish and perceived quality have made great progress since the very first Model 3. The whole is very well assembled, silent (thanks to the double glazing at the front)… Almost at the level of the best premiums !
Side specificities of the Model Y, we note of course the raised driving position compared to the sedan. All thanks to booster seats under the seats. Practical, they allow to pass the feet under at the back, to a truly royal legroom!
The same goes for the headroom, well helped in addition by the large panoramic glass roof.
Finally, the trunk is cavernous: 695 L!
Our test Tesla Model Y may be the “entry-level” Long Range version (€ 59,990 anyway), but it has 440 hp … impressive performance : 5.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h measured by us! All thanks to a contained weight at 1,986 kg (Labo Auto Plus measurements), the only one under the two tonnes in the segment.
Logically, driving, whether dynamic or casting, is very successful. Without having sporting pretensions, this Tesla Model Y is cheering on the road. And, as often, Tesla dominates the autonomy level debates: 445 km measured by our experts! When you know that almost no one in front of you crosses the 400 km barrier …
However, two small flaws in use: one truck-like turning radius, and almost zero rear visibility.
In short, many qualities, underlined by a much lower price than a comparable Audi Q4 e-tron, for example. The only concern: the call price, placed at € 59,990, prohibits any option if you intend to keep the ecological bonus of € 2,000.
