Aptera is not one of those young brands that have emerged recently with the rise of the electric car. It was founded in 2005 before being liquidated in 2011. The company had presented in particular an amazing prototype car powered by solar energybut which did not really appeal to investors at the time.

Return of Aptera

But the wind being now more favorable to those who wanted to be right too soon, Aptera relaunches its three-wheeled solar car project, which is now moving to the “Beta” stage. And what better than a famous drag race with the two Aptera models, the Alpha and the Beta to promote the brand in the United States and thus show the progress made?

The two vehicles showed up on the starting line alongside a Tesla Model 3 Performance and an Audi R8 GT Spyder and its 560 horsepower V10.

It’s not the fastest of the R8s, especially since it’s the previous generation, but its performance is still very much on the agenda with a 0 to 100 km/h shot in 3.8 seconds. The Tesla Model 3 Performance does a little better with 3.5 seconds announced in this exercise.

The Aptera Beast winner by a short head

The four cars therefore competed in what looks like a desert circuit and on a distance of a quarter mile, or about 400 meters. As evidenced by the video, this is the Beta model of Aptera the finish line firsta hair ahead of the Audi R8.

The manufacturer is preparing to produce its first models in series within its new premises of 7400 m² in Carlsbad, California.
