European states want to accelerate the deployment of the network of charging stations

Following an informal council where Jean-Baptiste Djebarri received his counterparts, the European states agreed on the acceleration of the deployment of the network of charging stations.

With the advent of the electric car, charging infrastructure must follow to ensure the future of this energy. Several countries, including France, have already announced extensive plans to expand the network of electric car charging stations, although delays are already announced for their timely implementation.

A European plan

But to speed up the process on a larger scale, “European states have agreed to accelerate the deployment of the network of charging stations for electric vehicles”as indicated on Tuesday the French Minister of Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, at the end of an informal council where he received his counterparts.

Ministers of Transport and Infrastructure, as well as representatives of European countries, met on Monday and Tuesday at the Air and Space Museum in Le Bourget, north of Paris, under the French presidency of the European Union.

“A high-level consensus has been forged in all European countries to accelerate the deployment of charging stations”said the minister during a press conference at Le Bourget.

Harmonization of charging stations

To achieve this objective, several measures will be taken, starting with the harmonization of terminals, their business model, coverage of rural areas and electricity needs “decarbonized”.

« CThis transition is and will be costly, it is committed to unprecedented volumes and in a very short time”underlined Jean-Baptiste Djebbari. “The subject of purchasing power has been widely discussed. We will have to build a necessary social justice approach”.

The ministers did not only focus on road transport, the aviation sector was also concerned: “a consensus on the technologies that can be used, in particular on alternative fuels to kerosene – whether based on used cooking oil, agricultural or forestry waste – or aimed at producing synthetic fuels, products from hydrogen and CO2 if possible captured in the atmosphere »underlined the French minister.
