In recent days, Elon Musk has been arm wrestling with his employees. A tense context, for the billionaire, who no longer hesitates to lay off.
It’s a tough time for Tesla boss Elon Musk. Since a few weeks, the billionaire faces a major uproar from employees of Tesla and Space X. The deleterious atmosphere within Tesla had been brought to light by the “case” of telework. Elon Musk immediately announced that the automotive company would have to start cutting 10% of its workforce worldwide. An announcement that set fire to the powder at Tesla, but also at Space X.
A giant lawsuit, would it be about to be born in the United States against Tesla and Elon Musk? We learn today that two former employees of the electric car manufacturer have decided to file a complaint against their employer for unfair dismissal. Among the complainants is John Lynch. This former production supervisor at the Tesla factory in Nevada received a letter overnight indicating his immediate dismissal. A news that caused a significant wave of emotion within the company. And above all the publication of numerous testimonials from employees who believe that they too have been victims of unfair dismissal by Tesla. According to some American media, widespread legal action could emerge in the coming months if proof of these dismissals is provided.
“Come back to the office or leave Tesla. the telework is not now more acceptable. Everyone at Tesla is required to spend a minimum of 40 hours in the office per week”
Elon Musk
Same story on the side of Space X. Employees wanted to criticize the behavior of Elon Musk in an open letter. But according to information provided by AFP, the employees in question were all fired on the spot by the Space X management. In this letter, the employees wanted to denounce the excessive pressure exerted internally. The American media The Vergefurther indicated that this open letter cited recent sexual harassment charges against Elon Musk.
Charges that the American billionaire considers unimportant. At an economic forum in Qatar, Elon Musk said that “Anything Tesla gets a lot of clicks, whether the topic is meaningful or not. I would put this lawsuit […] in the category of insignificant things”.
In Europe too Elon Musk is experiencing setbacks with his company Tesla. The American manufacturer opened its entire new factory in Berlin. The latter will notably produce the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y for the European market. But here again things are difficult between Tesla and the employees. The plant currently employs just over 3,000 people. Management hopes to achieve the 12,000 employees once production has actually started. But according to the German unions, the salaries offered are too low to be able to attract candidates. These wages would be 20% lower than the competition according to the German trade unions.
A situation that tends a little more the production of American electric cars in Europe. Because Tesla does not necessarily want to get its hands on the wallet. Elon Musk wants the group to save money, despite the 18 billion dollars in turnover of the first quarter of 2022.
