On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the BMW Motorsport division, the famous German car brand unveils other CSL models. But to the great regret of the enthusiasts, it never came to fruition! Fortunately, a very recent video in the brand’s secret garage shows us these hidden treasures to better discover them…
CSL or “Competition Sport Leisht” is such a specific badge of the BMW brand. In this category, only three models have really emerged and have been marketed. These are the 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL, 2003 BMW 576 M3 CSL and the very recent BMW M4 CSL. They are both designed for road use, but also suitable for driving on the circuit. In addition to these 3 models, 4 other prototypes were developed but never saw the light of day.
Just a few hours away from the official reveal but someone has leaked the 2023 BMW M4 CSL.

You might think it houses the same heart as the 2001 M3 GTR V8. But think again! The M3 CSL E46 V8 was invented by BMW M engineers for a specific purpose. This is so that his engine can prototype to design the top engine of the 2007 M3 E92.
The M5 CSL has the same story as the M3 E46. Her too served as a laboratory for his legendary V10. It is also a unique piece, marking the 25th anniversary of BMW M. It develops more than 630 horsepower, and gains in lightness thanks to its carbon fiber roof and the removal of its rear seats.
Different from the two previous prototypes, it’s a coupe with a V10 engine with a unique technology: active aerodynamics. Absolutely, active aerodynamics has never been tried on any other car. Therefore, she became the center of attention of all connoisseurs. This model also has twin-spoke mirrors like most current sports models.

The last, the M2 F87 CSL was the closest to a possible production. Possessing a 6-cylinder 3L biturbo engine with a power of 450 horsepower, it copied some elements of the M4 GTR such as its carbon spoiler, the roll bar, the bucket seats, etc. This unique piece was presented to the Munich pundits alongside the M2 CS, but it was the CS that was chosen.
