This commune of the Gard has taken an astonishing decision!

In the town of Langlade, in the Gard, it is now strictly forbidden to smoke in the car. And it’s for good reason.

When driving, we are obviously subject to the sacrosanct Highway Code, which governs all aspects of driving. Priorities, speed, etc., everything is subject to these rules, which allow you to travel in complete safety. But if these are common to all motorists and are the same everywhere in France, certain mayors or prefects can however take specific measures, in certain cases. We are thinking in particular of the reinstatement of the speed limit at 90 km/h on certain departmental roads, which is undoubtedly the most convincing example. But in a commune in the Gard, the mayor has meanwhile issued a decree that is a little more surprising but which makes sense, as you will see.

Total ban on smoking

Indeed, in the small town of Langlade, located in the south of France, it is now strictly forbidden to smoke in cars. An astonishing measure, because this practice is absolutely not prohibited in the Highway Code. This only specifies that the driver must be able to react in the event of a problem. That’s all. But in Langlade, it is therefore prohibited, since June 18 and until July 31. And this is not for a reason of public health, although we know how much smoking is obviously harmful to the body and in particular the lungs.

A logical reason

No, if he is now it is strictly forbidden to smoke while driving your car this summer in the Gard, it’s for a completely different reason, which is also completely logical. Indeed, the department is each year the victim of major forest fires, in particular caused by badly extinguished cigarette butts. This reason therefore explains this ban, which will then cost 15 euros to offenders. And this measure is far from unanimous among the motorists concerned.
