While the TotalEnergies group is offering a 20-cent discount on fuel prices, the group’s competitors are also asking to benefit from it.
Since this Thursday, September 1, from new discounts at the pump are applied by distributors. That of the State first of all, which makes it possible to lower the price of fuel by 30 cents. Added to this is another discount made by the TotalEnergies group. This discount of 20 cents, in addition to that proposed by the government, and is available on all fuels without conditions. A practice that greatly annoys the other giants of distribution in France, including the Leclerc group.
In an interview with our colleagues from France Info, the CEO of the Leclerc group, Michel-Edouard Leclerc, confided not appreciating the discount applied by the TotalEnergies group. In his words, Total “gives a discount of 20 cents to customers of its network, but not to those of our networks. However, Total is a very large French supplier”. The CEO of the Leclerc brand believes that the group is itself a customer of TotalEnergies and that as such, it should also benefit from a discount of 20 cents per liter and per fuel.

Michel-Edouard Leclerc has also indicated that he had written to Patrick Pouyanné on the subject. “We ask that he give us the same conditions. Customers Leclerc, Carrefour, Avia, small pump attendants who sell Total must be in the promise of Mr. Pouyanné”.
For its part, Total has so far not reacted to the request of the Leclerc group.

To criticize the discount of 20 cents set up by Total, Michel-Edouard speaks “arrangements with public authorities”. The CEO of the Leclerc group believes that for escape excessive taxation from the French State, TotalEnergies offered this rebate tocurry favor with the government. Total had also justified this discount by the need to restore purchasing power to the French.
However, the executive has not yet completely abandoned the idea of a super profits tax. The Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, recalled this week that the door to the introduction of this tax “was not closed”. This tax could even see the light of day by the fall. But the government still cannot agree on the concept of « superprofits ».
In the meantime, the TotalEnergies group is drawing criticism from its competitors.
