SolarBotanic Trees: the charging station of the future?

SolarBotanic Trees presented its prototype “solar tree”, which can be used to power an electric car charging station.

After 7 years of development, the company SolarBotanic Treesbased in London, unveiled its “solar tree” prototype : this device, which extends over 5 meters in height and 5 meters in wingspan, is able to generate enough electricity to supply a house, and store the surplus in order to be able to reuse it.

It is also possible to use it topower solar charging stations for electric vehicles, and SolarBotanic Trees plans to equip shopping center car parks with its tree-shaped device.

SolarBotanic Trees: an unprecedented nanotechnology

According to the British company, this solar tree with a futuristic design is equipped with a photovoltaic nanotechnologywith 3D cells in the shape of a sheet, a first in the world: these ultrathin solar cells are able to deliver a 5 kW electric power.

SolarBotanic Trees has developed its trees thanks to Co-Innovate, a London program to support small and medium-sized enterprises, which is based on the academic resources of Brunel University London, the Manufacturing Technology Center in Coventry, but also the research center of the University of Sheffield, which was responsible for testing this innovative solar tree prototype.

SolarBotanic Trees: artificial intelligence

In practice, solar energy is produced by the photovoltaic cells of the solar trees, then stored by a battery system driven by artificial intelligence

which will manage the use of this solar energy at the right time.

The British company wants to target the market for fast electric vehicle charging for individuals, businesses and shopping center car parks. The solar tree can be connected to the local electricity network, and it is even capable of supplying it, for example by reselling energy to the local supplier.

SolarBotanic Trees: launch in 2023

SolarBotanic Trees plans to market a first generation of its solar tree as soon as beginning of the year 2023and announces that its price will become affordable as soon as it is mass produced, without announcing a price for the moment.

Negotiations are in fact underway with SolarBotanic Trees’ partners to provide logistics, installation, technical support and the start of production. By 2025, this solar tree should even take on the appearance of a real tree, for perfect integration into its environment.
