Mercedes sees the future only in electric

According to a Mercedes spokesperson, there would be no viable alternative to electric for the next few years.

This is a hot topic that has been on everyone’s lips for a few years now. Indeed, it has been quite some time now that the public authorities have been doing everything to encourage motorists to switch to electric. If it had started with discreet incentives, with the ecological bonus, our leaders are now going further. So much so that they plan to ban the sale of new thermal cars in Europe from 2035. A date by which many brands will have already become 100% electric. This is particularly the case of Mercedeswhich will only sell zero-emission cars in 2030. A date that is fast approaching and for which the star firm is preparing more than ever.

Everything for electric

If there are other very interesting engines, such as hybrid or hydrogen, this does not really seem to speak to Mercedes. Interviewed during the presentation of the EQE at the Rodin Museum on the sidelines of the Paris Motor Show, the brand’s technical director, Markus Schafer, underlines for his part that ” for cars, there is no alternative to electric“. The latter absolutely does not believe in hydrogen and synthetic fuels, which would require ” new investments in technologies that are anyway less efficient applied to cars. It’s not the best choice“. This has at least the merit of being very clear, while the firm with the star believes more than ever in the electric for the future.

A large investment

Indeed, Mercedes-Benz has already invested more than 7 billion euros in the research and development of connected engines. So much so that the brand claims to be even ready for the end of combustion in 2035, while part of its combustion engines would already be abandoned by 2027. In 2039, the manufacturer should no longer offer this engine anywhere in the world. , as it works to develop larger, faster-charging batteries.
