Ecological bonus: new stricter conditions in 2023

Since January 1, the amount of the ecological bonus has been reduced. And new conditions for obtaining are emerging.

Like every year, January 1 is synonymous with change, and unfortunately not always in the right direction. Unsurprisingly, this is once again the case this year, when the government has planned a lot of things for motorists. Starting with the end of the fuel discount, but not only. Because this beginning of 2023 also sees the scale of the ecological penalty evolve upwards, with a maximum tax which now increases to €50,000, or 27% of the price of the vehicle. The ecological bonus has also undergone some changes, since it has been revised downwards, from 6,000 to 5,000 € for cars under 47,000 €. But that’s not all.

Harsh conditions

Indeed, other changes have been made, in all discretion. Few know it, but now the cars surpassing the €47,000 mark are no longer eligible for state assistance. Until then, they had the right to 3,000 and then 2,000 €. It was originally planned that the aid would be €1,000. In addition, the conditions for obtaining them have also been tightened. Indeed, cars over 2.4 tonnes are now excluded from the system. Moreover, we now need keep your vehicle for at least a year and no longer six months or 6,000 kilometers to claim the ecological bonus. Moreover, the same person can only benefit from this aid once every three years.

A decrease but not for all

Professionals can still receive the little help from the state, but only up to €1,000. The plug-in hybrids are still excluded, while hydrogen-powered models are still eligible this year. It should be noted that the most modest can still benefit from an ecological bonus of up to €7,000, provided they can prove a reference tax income of less than €14,089.
