The engine of his Fiesta fails at only 24,500 km!

“An invoice of €2,511 for an out of order engine at 24,500 km! Bad surprise for our reader, who owns an almost new Ford Fiesta…

A few weeks ago, the engine of his Fiesta gave up the ghost. And, to top it off, the participation granted by Ford seems far too light for our reader…

A Ford Fiesta with barely 25,000 km

Fervent reader of the newspaper you hold in your hands, Thomas B., from Besançon (25), has been the owner of a Ford Fiesta 1.0 Eco-Boost 100, purchased new. Thomas is a light rider since, nearly three years after its entry into service, this city car has barely 25,000 km. Despite this young age and very low mileage, a few weeks ago the coolant overheat warning light came on. Thomas therefore lets the engine cool down and then checks the level of this liquid. He finds that this is at a minimum.

Insufficient supply

Our reader then refills the coolant tank. Unfortunately, a few kilometers later, the Fiesta stops. The only solution is to have it towed to the dealership. Which detects, after analysis, a microcrack on the engine block. It is then necessary to replace the latter. Having an urgent need for his car, Thomas orders the start of the works, after the establishment ofan estimate of €5,581.

At the same time, the dealer opens a support request file with Ford France. After a few days, he receives a 55% agreement. This leaves all the same €2,511 payable by Thomas. The latter considers that Ford is far from having made a proposal that lives up to its responsibilities.

Our defense strategy

The case of Thomas is not isolated, even if this failure of the 1.0 EcoBoost remains quite rare. In the case of a manufacturing defect in the engine block, our experts’ scale is very clear: the manufacturer must assume all of the repairs. up to 5 years old or 100 000 km of this major element. 3 years old and with 24,500 km, Thomas’ Fiesta is far from these terms. Ford therefore has to take out his checkbook and reimburse his client for the €2,511 that he had to pay to get his car back.
