When a new car is unveiled by a manufacturer, it is usually photographed in a color that often makes you want to. And for some time now, the trend has been for bright colors, as for the Skoda Enyaq Coupé RS iV, whose launch color is fluorescent green. A choice that can confuse, but which has the merit of not going unnoticed. More soberly, this is also the case for the Peugeot 308, presented with a very beautiful darker green, or the 208 whose standard color is Faro yellow. However, when one walks in the street, difficult to see these colors on the cars. But how is this done? Well it would seem that motorists are not fond of these colors.

Indeed, and as shown by a study carried out by the company Axalta, an American car paint manufacturer, buyers are actually quite cautious. Result, the most chosen color in Europe is gray, accounting for 27% of sales. It is then followed by black and then white. Blue comes in 4th position, followed by a more silvery gray and red. Orange then comes last, while this color is still quite rare. Only certain manufacturers offer it, such as Renault on its Clio and Arkana for example. In the rest of the world, white is the most popular, in the United States, Africa and Asia.

Result, no less than 70% of the European market is made up of gray cars. Not very happy all that, but it is also the case everywhere on the other continents. And the reason is quite simple: resale. It is indeed easier to find a buyer for a sober colored car than if it were dressed in green or yellow for example. And that’s a shame ! This is also why certain brands, such as Peugeot, offer bright colors as standard. Thus, you have to pay for an option to have gray or white… clever!
