The beginning of the year is always synonymous with taking stock of the past months, and this is of course valid in all areas. And in particular that of the automotive industry, while the december figures, and so from the previous year fall. The opportunity then to have an overview of the market and in particular the models that have sold the best. And in 2022, one car in particular stood out, while the situation is far from looking good. And for good reason, registrations have fallen by more than 7% over the past twelve months throughout France. But some models manage to hold their own.

This is particularly the case of the Peugeot 208. The city car remains the best-selling car of the year since January, ahead of the Dacia Sandero and its long-time rival, the Renault Clio. A great success for the star of the brand, presented in 2019 at the Geneva Motor Show, at the same time as the city car with the diamond. But the lioness does not only appeal to individuals. Indeed, it is also the model most appreciated by professionals and corporate fleets, according to data from the Arval Mobility Observatory. With 29,182 copies sold, the 208 then outstripped the Clio as well as the Citroën C3 and the Peugeot 3008. Foreign cars come very far, starting from 12th place with the Tuscon.

As with private individuals, the professional vehicle market also took a hit during the year, with sales down around 12% since January. By way of comparison, 196,000 less were sold to companies compared to 2019, a pre-Covid period when registrations were doing quite well. Overall, the French models are doing quite well all the same, as well as certain foreign cars, such as the Volkswagen Golf, the Toyota Yaris or the Ford Kuga. In electric, it is the Tesla Model Y that dominates sales.
