A Tesla stacks and causes a monster pileup!

A Tesla drastically reduced its speed on the highway and caused a pile-up involving eight cars. Because of the autopilot?

A Tesla Model S again caused an accident. This time it’s a pileup involving eight cars which occurred last month with a fully self-driving vehicle. Driving down the highway, the car caused minor injuries to the motorists involved. But they had a great fright!

A not-so-autonomous Tesla

Selon la National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, la autonomous driving of Tesla is responsible for many deaths in the United States. The manufacturer’s car sees its image even more tarnished by a dantesque pileup that occurred on the highway. A Tesla Model S was responsible for an accident involving eight cars when it slammed into the road. According to the pilot, the fault lies with the Automatic pilotle fameux Full Self Driving.

While driving at 88 km/h, he entered the leftmost lane of the highway. Suddenly, his car began to brake, until it reached a speed of 32 km/h. Obviously, the vehicles behind him were traveling at more than 100 km/h and crashed into the Tesla before colliding into each other.

Automatic driver VS human driver

So whose fault is it? At human driver who lacked vigilance to be able to correct the shot? Or to auto driver who reduced the speed for no reason?

Be that as it may, more fear than harm for the motorists involved in this pileup. Ambulances were still mobilized and traffic was on one lane for an hour and a half. It was necessary to evacuate the cars and the victims (9 people with minor injuries). The police were unable to say whether the autopilot was activated during the accident.

Coincidentally, this accident occurred during the day when Elon Musk was looking forward to the full self-driving beta. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been investigating Tesla’s Full Self-Driving for months. A year ago, she warned that users had complaints about a “rapid deceleration could occur without warning, randomly and often repeatedly”.
