The first autonomous electric bus will be set up in Paris during the year 2023 in order to reduce traffic and pollution
And electric self-driving bus will make the connection with the RER in the Val-de-Marne in order to disgorge traffic south of the French capital. This will also make it possible to fight against the current shortage of drivers and to pollute less Paris. Remember that the government has transformed civil servants into bus drivers at the start of the year.
Since September 2022, a driverless bus has been crisscrossing the streets of Paris. True RATP bet, it is the first non-autonomous vehicle in circulation. We are not talking about a small shuttle but about a 100% electric bus capable of carrying many passengers.
After a conclusive test phase, this bus worthy of an episode of the K200 series will be officially assigned to line 393, between Sucy-en-Brie and Thiais (Val-de-Marne). Length of 12 metersit can carry 18 people seated. It will serve 20 stops to Créteil Basse-Quinte RER station. Its speed will not exceed 30 km/h and it is an artificial intelligence controlled by a camera and radars which will act as driver.
Initially, a “safety driver” will be seated at the wheel but he will not have to touch the wheel on this part of the route. He will regain control between Créteil and Thiais.

The objective of this type of project is to increase the service of public transport and reduce diesel. Line 393 will be in place throughout the year. After setting up autonomous metros (lines 14, 1 and soon 13), the Île-de-France region will benefit from more regularity in this service and its inhabitants will be able to leave their car in the garage. Many diesel models will no longer be able to enter the capital with the implementation of the Greater Paris ZFE.
With these new robot buses, users will also be fewer victims of strikes from the drivers. Which can sometimes make them live a nightmare to go to work.
The RATP presents a completely autonomous 393 bus prototype, thanks to cameras and sensors. You will be able to ride this fall, but there will only be one copy on the whole line.@ClientsRATP #Vivatech pic.twitter.com/L4FKq1x6jR
