As the price of fuel increases, the French are waiting for new aid. But these should not come right away.

It’s been a few days since the fuel discount ended for good. Since January 1, the government has therefore made no move on petrol and diesel, after having implemented a boost of 18 cents, then 30 and finally 10. A welcome help for drivers, who undergo since the beginning of the year a strong fuel price hike. And this should unfortunately not go on improving, while prices at the pump tend to climb again. And this after several consecutive weeks of decline.

A few weeks ago, Michel-Edouard Leclerc, boss of the eponymous retail chain, announced that he was ready to make a gesture for motorists. He then asserted that “ yes, we can make a move, but I don’t know the rules of the game yet […] I am not going to announce (what I am going to do) to my competitor, because Total it is my supplier, but also my competitor“. We could then have expected the return of the fuel at cost, an operation much appreciated by the brand and its customers. But since then, radio silence from the leader. The latter, however, gave news a few days ago, at the microphone of RTL.

Fuel Prices: The Government Does Not Want To Help The French Anymore
And this one showered the hopes of the motorists, by affirming whereas it was for the moment not able to set up a boost for its customers. In question, the rise in the price of fuel, which also affects distributors. Michel-Edouard Leclerc indeed explains that “ we have an obligation today to supply ourselves excluding Russian fuel, excluding Russian diesel […] We do not yet see the effect (on the price, editor’s note) on the fuel we are buying. There is about a delay of two or three months“. But this one is more expensive than usual, which will be felt at the pump.
The French are penalized by disruptions in the supply of service stations.
Consequently, the Government is extending the discount of 30 centimes/L at the pump until mid-November.@TotalEnergies also extends its discount of 20 centimes/L for the same duration. pic.twitter.com/u7EdYWGliB
