Pass Navigo: SUVs soon to be taxed to contain price increases?

This is a proposal by David Belliard to finance the Navigo pass in the coming years: tax SUVs, parcels from e-commerce platforms, even heavy goods vehicles…

The Navigo pass continues to increase at the start of 2023. Distributed by Ile-de-France Mobilités, this card allows you to travel on all public transport in the region. Metro, tram, bus, trains, RER, and even TER on certain sections! Its prices are reviewed each year at the same time as those of inflation, so that it has increased by 10% in 2023 ! To be able to use transport in the 5 flat-rate zones, it has been necessary for a month pay €84.10. The annual Navigo pass now peaks at €925.10 (also dezoned). The good old T+ paper tickets (which are suspended) can now be obtained for €2.10. They will gradually disappear, in favor of dematerialized tickets. But how to prevent these prices from increasing so much ? A local elected official in Paris has his own idea…

SUVs in the sights

As this is a public service, used by a large number of Ile-de-France residents, the first deputy mayor of Paris wishes to preserve this service, and fund it differently. By seeking funds elsewhere. “If we do nothing, the Navigo pass will not be at 84.10 euros, it will be at 100, 110, 120 euros. We are facing a situation of social bomb”, he explains in an interview granted to our colleagues from 20 Minutes. We tell you about it on Auto Plus, because David Belliard wishes for this tax SUVs. Which, according to him, have “no use in the city and are very polluting”. He is also considering setting up a tax on kerosene in Paris and in the regionsto prevent the pass from continuing to increase.

More the deputy of Europe-Ecology-The Greens (EELV) don’t want to stop there. It also mentions a tax on packages from private delivery companies. Amazon, FedEx, UPS, DHL : he wants to target e-commerce platforms. Which “generate billions of euros on an activity that uses a common resource which is the public space”. Specifically, he suggests tax 50 cents per package, to recover 180 million euros in a year. In Ile-de-France, an average of 1 million parcels are delivered every day. Finally, David Belliard also mentioned the establishment of a eco-tax on heavy goods vehicles. So many proposals in favor of the Navigo pass. They will be proposed and discussed with the president of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, on the occasion of her “Funding meetings”.
