Porsche Vision 357: an anniversary concept car

With the Porsche Vision 357 concept, the German firm elegantly reinterprets the very first 356 Roadster, on the occasion of its 75th birthday.

If the Porsche 911, which this year celebrates its 60 th anniversary, is probably the most famous of German cars, it is to another model of the brand that this new concept, baptized Porsche Vision 357.

In fact, it was in 1948 that the Porsche 356the first production car from the Stuttgart firm: it therefore celebrates this year the75th birthday. For the occasion, Porsche unveiled a new reinterpretation of the historic model, which is resolutely modern and elegant.

Porsche Vision 357: a base Porsche Cayman

The Porsche 356 was a great success for Porsche, which sold more than 76,000 copies until 1965. This model continues to be a true automotive legend, particularly prized by collectors.

With the Vision 357, the German manufacturer’s teams wanted to imagine what a sports car todayif it had been imagined by Ferry Porsche: this is how this elegant coupé was born, resting on the based on a Porsche Cayman GT4 RS.

“We have created a very special anniversary present in the form of the Porsche Vision 357, which uses the 356 as a base to underline the importance of our design DNA”says Michael Mauer, Vice President of Porsche Style: “this concept car is an attempt to combine past, present and future with coherence, with proportions that recall its historic archetype and details that preview future prospects”.

Porsche Vision 357: a neo-retro sports car

The model is equipped with fluid and curved lines, and its wrap-around windscreen is accompanied by pillars painted in black, to create continuity with the side windows. The brand’s signature round headlights are suggested at the front, while there is a light signature integrated into the bodywork at the rear.

Many sporty appendages embellish its exterior style, such as these sporty-style solid rims, a rear apron that incorporates a twin exhaust outlet, rear-view cameras, as well as colored “75” stickers celebrating the anniversary of his grandmother.

Porsche Vision 357: a sporty heart

Of the ultralight materials are used in the composition of the Vision 357 body, such as the natural fiber reinforced plastic (NFRP) found on the Mission R concept, while air intakes integrated into the side quarter panels allow the engine to be cooled .

Contrary to what its particularly sleek design might suggest, the Porsche Vision 357 is not equipped with an electric motor! It honors the famous Flat 6 of the brand, with an atmospheric version of 4.0 liters of displacement, developing some 550 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque sent to the rear wheels.
