The Apple Car will be able to drive in the dark

A new patent has been filed by Apple, which plans to release its car in the coming years. Many sensors will allow it to drive autonomously in the dark.

Scheduled for 2025, l’Apple Car has aroused the interest of the automotive world for several years. Between fantasies and reality, it is difficult to discern the true from the false concerning the functions with which this car will be equipped. If the autonomous driving of the Apple Car is no longer a secret, other options are more vague, such as the fact of being able to driving in the dark.

An autonomous Apple Car in all circumstances?

According to Tesla, autonomous driving is more efficient than a human driver. Supporting figures. But the latest accidents force to take these statistics with a grain of salt. A Model X caught fire after hitting a safety wall, a Tesla was responsible for a pile-up with 8 cars…

However, thanks to Apple, progress should be substantial. Even at night ! Let’s face it, driving at night is a lot less fun. You feel tired, you are dazzled by the headlights of other vehicles, you have to readjust your lights, sometimes you even have to deal with wild animals crossing the road… In short, with the Apple Car, all of this will be one bad memory.

A new patent for Apple

The apple brand confirms that it can increase visibility in dark environments. The patent it has just filed is formal. Its autonomous driving system relies on sensors and cameras that allow cars to detect objects at night. The problem ? Visibility is only 60 meters and the speed adjusts accordingly.

For Apple, a car needs more time to detect objects in front of the vehicle. This is why the American brand offers a new approach that relies on several complementary image detection systems. First, an infrared sensor and an infrared illuminator will allow detection in the dark at a distance of 200 meters. The lifting of the speed restriction will then be possible.

As a reminder, the Apple Car should see the light of day in 2025. Apple executives are known to have traveled to Korea recently to negotiate its battery supply, suggesting that the progress in the project is going in the right direction.
