It was at the Barcelona Motor Show that Cupra revealed the series name of its concept hitherto called Urban Rebel. It is under the name of Raval that it will land in concessions in 2025.
The name Raval pays homage to the Raval district, in the heart of Barcelona. A way for the brand to show its attachment to the Catalan city. It is indeed in Martorell, not far from there that Seat, Cupra’s parent brand, has its headquarters.. Baptizing its urban model with the name of a district of Barcelona also reaffirms the desire of the brand and the Volkswagen group to strengthen its roots by producing electric cars on site.
Car it is in Martorell that the Raval will be produced from 2025. The company will invest 3 billion euros in the transformation of the plant to switch from combustion to electrification. It will produce electric cars from 2025 based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB Small platform. It is moreover Seat which has been appointed by the Volkswagen group to lead the development of small electric cars for the whole group.
“The Raval is one of the most surprising neighborhoods in Barcelona. And today, we are proud that the brand’s future urban electric car bears his name and represents his spirit. Just as we did with the CUPRA Born, we now want to express the essence of Raval and continue to inspire the world from Barcelona,” explained Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Seat and Cupra. « The Cupra Raval is not a car like the others. It’s an invitation to a new generation that expects something better. An urban, rebellious and 100% electric car, with its own character and linked to ‘Gen Z’. Something more emotional”, said Wayne Griffiths. The brand has created the most radical interpretation of the CUPRA in a racing-inspired urban electric car.
