This homemade engine is directly inspired by parts used in NASCAR and IndyCar. According to its designers, it could produce 800 horsepower.
Pete Aardema and Kevin Braun, two Americans, specialized in the construction of custom race engines in San Diego (California). Their latest creation is a 6.0 liter V12 which they have prepared and sharpened to break speed records. Proud of their engine, they decided to test it on a test bench and film the scene. The result, at first glance, looks impressive.
To build their engine, the two mechanics equipped themselves with a custom-designed block and cylinder heads. To achieve this, they drew inspiration from car engine parts used in NASCAR and IndyCar racing. Then, thanks to theimpression 3Dthey were able to create new parts with which they developed their own competition engine.
Pete Aardema and Kevin Braun admit, however, that their homemade engine is probably several years behind the technologies used in NASCAR and IndyCar competitions. Their creation is no less incredible and overpowering. In addition to the engine and its parts, they built themselves a crankshaft and pistons.
Once all the engine components were individually fabricated and assembled, the two mechanics set about testing it on a test bench. First observation: their V12 emits a sound particularly violent, but unique. It’s pretty close, they say, to the sound of a NASCAR V8 engine.

Pete Aardema and Kevin Braun’s V12 engine doesn’t just sound like a race car. It could also develop as much power as a NASCAR engine. Power and potential top speed figures were not released after the test. According to them, it would turn to 12 000 tr/min and would produce between 750 and 800 horsepower.
To test their V12 engine in real time, the duo will use it during a first event of the Bonneville Speed Week 2023. On the sidelines of the speed competition, which will be held next August, another race will be organized on May 20, at El Mirage Lakebed, in California. This is an ideal opportunity to see if the engine will hold up.
