Toll prices: associations are indignant during a hearing

A hearing was set up by the Senate a few days earlier, during which three associations were invited. We tell you.

Paying the toll when going on vacation or simply taking the highway to work is something that has become commonplace today. We are quite accustomed to sometimes spending several tens of euros to cross France. Especially since toll prices continue to rise every year. And for good reason, the motorway management companies have the right to review their prices every year, passing on up to 70% of the rate of inflation. As a result, tolls have taken no less than 4.75% this year compared to last year. Which obviously does not please motorists.

Fuel, tolls, additional costs, the journeys to leave are overpriced.

Three associations react

But the associations are not left out either and many are indignant at this situation. This is particularly the case of 40 Million Motorists, the National Union of Family Associations (Unaf) and the National Federation of Road Transport (FNTR). The latter met to discuss this subject during a meeting organized in the Senate. This took place on Wednesday, May 10, as Secretary General Rodolphe Lanz reports on the Public Senate website where all the debates are transcribed. And those have been pretty lively.

Profits criticized

The associations point out that the price of tolls has been multiplied by 2.4 since 2000 and that ” we pay a lot on the highways but this money does not go to the State. We are customers of motorway companies“. The latter obviously denounce the high prices, and the fact that ” the State remains the primary beneficiary. On a ticket of 10 euros, 4.20 euros are donated to the latter“. The sums collected by companies and by the government are obviously singled out by organizations. So much so that Bruno Le Maire announces that he plans to reduce the duration of the concessions by a few years.
