A year after the heralding concept of the electric R4, Renault is now giving it a makeover, a tribute to the sixties and above all to the Roland-Garros tennis tournament, of which it has been an official sponsor since 2022.
After the Zoé and the electric Mégane E-Tech, Renault will intensify its 100% electric offensive in the coming months. The future range will thus soon be made up of the new Scénic, teased by the Scénic Vision concept in 2022. It will only be Scénic in name, and will now be a large electric family SUV. And no longer a minivan as has been the case since 1996. The next new features will be called R5 and R4.. The first, expected for 2024, was highlighted by the eponymous concept. It was unveiled in 2021 at the same time as the new strategy Renaulution of the group, by Luca de Meo. This electric city car, assembled in Douaiwill have to assist the Clio which is only available in gasoline or hybrid motorization.
For the Renault 4, the philosophy is about to change. Our good old “4L” will also go electric, through a more assertive SUV look than before. Because yes, if we look in history, the R4 already announced the future reign of SUVs. Raised ground clearance, high travel suspensions, large volumes… It was in its own way, and from 1962, the harbinger of this future category! A detail that has not escaped Renault, this 4L 2.0 will therefore indeed become an SUV. It will fit into the range above the electric R5 exactly. With for the R4 an alternative to the gasoline and hybrid Captur. She will be assembled in the North alongside her little sister, but will prefer her Maubeuge assembly lines. The new French starlet had been unveiled as a prototype in 2022, called 4Ever. It is now evolving into a more cheerful, more colorful version, and more in the style of the original 4L.

Called “4Ever Trophy”, it is a direct nod to the first R4, unveiled in 1962. Its sky blue color is indeed very similar to the “Île-de-France Blue” unveiled at launch. A color that suits it much better than the austere gray of the 2021 prototype. “Trophy” is also another nod to the first R4, which has been at the heart of the famous “4L Trophy” rally since 1997! Why did Renault unveil a second concept, very similar to the previous one? To continue to praise the upcoming arrival of the new R4 on the one hand. On the other hand for exhibit the prototype at Roland-Garros, Renault being the new official sponsor since 2022 ! It is for this reason that it sports – in addition to this rather perky blue livery – several fluorescent yellow inserts. A nod to tennis balls, Of course. It will be exhibited throughout the 2023 edition of Roland-Garros, which will be held from May 22 to June 11. The standard electric 4L will arrive in 2025.
