Earlier this week, Elon Musk, the whimsical boss of Tesla, was received by Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the “Choose France” summit.
Soon a new Tesla Gigafactory in France? It seems difficult today to imagine the American firm opening a new factory in Europe after that of Berlin. However, the American billionaire Elon Musk said to himself on Monday “confident that Tesla will make significant investments in France in the future”on the sidelines of the “Choose France” summit at the Palace of Versailles.
« I am very impressed by the welcome given by President Macron and the French government to the industry“, launched the boss of Tesla, Twitter and Space X to journalists, at the end of an exchange with the French Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire.
« With Elon Musk, each of whom knows the portfolio of activities which is very broad, we are continuing discussions“, said Bruno Le Maire. And this sentence is not so trivial, since Elon Musk may not have traveled to France just for Tesla, but also for other activities. But for the moment, we will not know more. “It is best to keep the content of these discussions secret for the moment ” and that’ “they remain confidential“said the Minister.
Behind the investments, such as those for a total amount of 13 billion euros which were announced during the sixth edition of Choose France, ” there are months and months of negotiations“, explained Bruno Le Maire. ” It’s a battle in which no one makes gifts to attract investment, at home, jobs at home, technologies at home.“, he noted.

Recall that, last week, Emmanuel Macron went to the north of France to unveil his strategy for the reindustrialization of France. In particular, we learned that a fourth battery factory was going to be set up in France with the Taiwanese company ProLogium.
ProLogium plans to invest 5.2 billion euros in Dunkirk by 2030 in order to reach an annual production capacity of 48 GWh, enough to supply several hundred thousand cars. The group hopes to start production at the end of 2026 and increase its capacity over several years, thus creating 3,000 jobs in the factory and 12,000 indirect jobs in the territory.
Three other “gigafactories” projects have already been announced, in Douvrin (which is scheduled to open at the end of May), in Douai and in Dunkirk with the French start-up Verkor.
