The icon of American SUVs becomes an electric model of 750 hp

Cadillac presents the Escalade IQ, an imposing 750 hp 100% electric SUV, equipped with a 200 kWh battery and a theoretical range of 720 km.

Here is America in all its splendor, but with an “ecological” sauce. We are not sure that this term is appropriate for a model of this kind, as it does everything to the extreme, like its thermal cousin.

So here is the Cadillac Escalade IQan imposing SUV that does not do half measures and which will be marketed only in the North American market from next year.

The electric SUV of all superlatives

Built on the Ultium platform of the General Motors group, the Cadillac Escalade IQ takes up the square shapes of the thermal model with some important developments. The engineers wanted to give it a little more aerodynamic side by reviewing some curves. In total, the Cx has been lowered by 15% compared to its cousin with a combustion engine. The Escalade IQ sits on huge 24-inch rims and measures 5.70 meters.

The LED headlights are new and greet the driver with animation when unlocking and locking the car. When you approach the SUV with the key in your pocket, the driver’s door opens automatically. To open all the doors at the same time, all you have to do is press a command on the key.

In a car or in a movie theatre?

On board, it’s even more impressive with a total screen area of 55 inches. The embedded system is based on the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform architecture developed by Qualcomm. We also find two 12.6-inch screens for the rear passengers, joined by an additional central screen to manage the comfort settings of the second and third rows of seats.

A fixed glass roof and 126-colour ambient lighting add to the feeling of spaciousness and luxury in the cabin, while for a truly immersive audio experience there’s an AKG Studio Reference hi-fi system with 40 loudspeakers, some of which are integrated into the headrests of the seats.

On the practical side, in addition to the infinite volume of the trunk, the electric Escalade offers the “eTrunk” integrated under the front bonnet with an announced capacity of 340 litersi.e. the total loading capacity of certain city cars.

An XXL battery

Mechanically, the Escalade IQ features intelligent eAWD all-wheel drive and Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 dampers. Added to this is the Adaptive Air Ride suspension which can lower the car by 50 mm or raise it by 25 mm depending on the driving mode or in certain situations (for example, to facilitate access on board or improve accessibility to the chest). The Escalade IQ features rear-wheel steering to maximize agility as much as possible.

The battery is monstrous, with a capacity of 200 kWh for 720 km range advertised with a single charge. The 800-volt architecture reduces charging times, with the possibility of gaining 160 km of range in around 10 minutes by connecting to an ultra-fast charging station. The two electric motors develop the trifle of 750 hp and 1064 Nm in the sportiest driving mode, called “Velocity Max”. Thus, the 0 to 100 km / h claims in less than five seconds.

Finally, there is a plethora of driver assistance systems, including Super Cruise technology, the level 3 autonomous driving system which uses sensors, radars and LiDARs to navigate autonomously. This technology has been tested on more than 600,000 km of roads in Canada.
