Amid the flood of supercars presented at Pebble Beach, Acura (Honda in the USA) presents a 100% electric SUV with interesting characteristics.
The Acura ZDX is the first all-electric car from the premium Japanese automaker, which is sort of Honda’s premium subsidiary in North America. This SUV was presented in the middle of the supercars on the occasion of the Monterey Car Week.
It is based on the General Motors Ultium platform, shared with the Chevrolet Blazer, and is equipped with a large battery of 102 kWh.
The new Acura ZDX, that’s its name, can be recharged in direct current with a maximum power of 109 kWa value that allows it to “recover” about 130 km of range in just 10 minutes.
Two versions are available: one with a motor of 340 ch and an autonomy of 525 km with a single charge. The other version, badged Type S, benefits from two engines for a power of 500 ch and an autonomy of 463 km.
One of the “surprising” features of this new SUV is the weight distribution. Indeed, the manufacturer promises an “almost” perfect balance of 50/50, with specific improvements for the Type S version. This model receives an adjustable air suspension with adaptive shock absorbers or even Brembo brakes with six-piston yellow calipers for the front wheels.
Aesthetically, the new Acura ZDX has a “traditional” SUV shape with a glossy black roof, 20 or 22-inch wheels depending on the version and a front bumper inspired by the Acura Precision concept presented last year. Up front, the Diamond Pentagon grille highlights the front end with a three-dimensional diamond pattern embossed with a luminous surround, flanked in turn by the new “Jewel Eye” headlights.
Interior-wise, the entire Acura ZDX cabin has been designed with the driver in mind, with the large 11-inch digital instrument cluster accompanied by an 11.3-inch center touchscreen with an interface from Google.
Overall, we find the entire Google Automotive universe, with the Google Assistant or even some features specific to electric vehicles. These include, for example, instant battery pre-conditioning when you enter a DC fast charging station as destinations.
Standard on all ZDX models are front and rear automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with steering assistance and rear pedestrian alert. To these devices, the Type S version adds level 2+ autonomous driving.
The Acura ZDX will go into production next year with deliveries expected to start in late 2024. As for pricing, in America the base version will start for the equivalent of around 55,200 euros, while the Type version S will start at around 64,300 euros. It is not yet known if this model will ever arrive in Europe, but if so, he will do it under the Honda badge since Acura is not distributed on the Old Continent.
