As the average price of new cars increases, they are now becoming too expensive for drivers.
For more than three years now, the price of new cars has been steadily climbing, due in particular to the shortage of semiconductors, as well as the rising cost of raw materials. Concerns which are therefore of course reflected in the final price paid by customers. Not to mention the extended delays, but that’s another story. Thus, the average price increases from year to year, and this is all the more the case with the rise of electric cars, which cost even more because of the batteries. The latter represent on average 40% of the total cost of a car. Which is obviously huge.

According to a recent study by the website Coches.com, the price of new cars has risen sharply in the Spanish market. But this trend is the same everywhere in Europe, and especially in France. Thus, among our neighbors, the surge is 37% in just ten years. At the same time, the average salary only increased by 14% over the same period. As a result, motorists no longer have the means to buy large cars. Most can no longer afford to opt for small models, only thermal. Electricity is still far too expensive for the moment, and it should not improve yet.
According to the study, the average driver can therefore no longer afford less than 12% of new models launched on the market, without risking too much harm to its savings. SUVs are still largely on the rise, since they currently represent 40% of market share, against 20.7% ten years ago.
