From next year, the amount of the weight penalty should be revised upwards. And it will sting for motorists!
It has been a few years since the ecological bonus/penalty system was put in place. The goal ? Financially reward drivers who choose to opt for an electric car, while those who buy a car considered polluting must pay an additional tax. If this was until then quite reasonable, the government has continued to increase the amount over the years. Today, the scale is more severe than ever and above all, capped at 50,000 euros. An obviously very high amount, which nevertheless remains limited to 50% of the total price of the car. But that should still evolve.
There is one exception to the end of the sale of thermal vehicles in 2035 voted by the European Parliament: luxury cars (Ferrari, etc.). Of course, they are few, so emissions will be limited, but for the symbol and social justice, it will be necessary to iron pic.twitter.com/6gPS9lc6ZE

Indeed, from next year, the government wants to reform the ecological penalty again in order to make it even more severe. Thus, the latter should in particular to be uncapped. Which means concretely that there will be no more limits. Thus, a very polluting car could end up paying a penalty of 100,000 euros in certain cases. In any case, this is what we can imagine even if nothing has yet been confirmed for the moment. Company vehicles could now also be affected, although this is currently not the case. This could change the situation in the bad direction for utilities in particular.
But that’s not all. Indeed, the weight penalty could also change for thermal cars. For the record, the latter punishes with an additional tax vehicles that exceed the bar of 1,800 kilos. Drivers then have to pay 10 euro per kilo additional. The only one of this penalty could be lowered to 1.6 tons, which is very little. But electrics and hybrids should still not be affected by this measure. At least, for now…
