New Mercedes E-Class: more expensive than the competition

True benchmark in the saloon market, the new E-Class breaks with the classicism which is generally imbued with his lineage. The long hood, the shortened overhangs and the more streamlined roofline energize the line while remaining of a serious copy. If the classic chrome grille and the bonnet surmounted by the star remain present, the AMG Line finishes prefer a more original grille where sparkle a multitude of three-pointed starsbrand emblem.

The headlights, joined by a “black panel” similar to the Mercedes-EQ models, are fitted with LEDs as standard. It is especially on board that the link with electric models is most obvious.. Thanks to their generous 25.4 kWh battery, they claim 111 to 118 km of electric range! What display ridiculously low mixed consumption, between 0.5 and 0.9 l / 100km. xAt their side, the 204 hp E200 petrol will be the entry level. And the German reference don’t give up diesel yetstill very important in certain markets, with a 2 liters 197 hp, offered in two- or four-wheel drive. This engine will obviously be the most economical, with average consumption from 4.9 to 5.8l/100kmagainst 6.4 to 7.3 l/100km for gasoline.

In good Mercedes sedan, the E-Class will pay particular attention to the comfort of its passengers, with in particular suspensions which decouple the chassis and the bodywork from vibrations and rolling noise, but also an optional Airmatic suspension which is responsible for keeping the car perfectly stable in all conditions. Optional, the rear axle can be steered to improve agility. That’s all it promises us on paper. We only had to know one detail: its price! It starts at €64,750 in petrol, and €67,900 in diesel. As for the rechargeable hybrid, count at least 72,250€. It is therefore more expensive than its main rival, the new BMW 5 Series, which starts at €62,800. Ditto for the, certainly older, Audi A6and its €58,040…
