Tolls: a new tax, but no price increase according to the government

Every year, the companies in charge of the management of the motorways have the right to increase the prices of the tolls. But there are still rules to follow, since companies must limit themselves to 70% of inflation rate. Which is still great, while the latter is currently very high. Thus, last February, the price of tolls soared by 4.75% on average, depending on the regions and management companies. And this should still continue, while the government wants to add its little grain of salt.

A new tax

Indeed, the latter plans to set up a whole new tax, but the date has not yet been officially announced. Transport Minister Clément Beaune explains that the “we need to invest massively in the ecological transition. He explains that ” if there is a tax on motorway companies, it has no impact on toll prices. It is legally provided for like that (…) If there is taxation of motorway companies, it does not affect toll prices paid by motorists“. We are reassured!
