The Chinese manufacturer BYD has just reached an important milestone in its production: the milestone of 5 million electric vehicles produced!
BYD (acronym of Build Your Dreams) is one of the world leaders in electric cars and batteries. The Chinese group has just announced that it has crossed the bar of 5 million electric vehicles produced : a world first for a car manufacturer.
“Today marks a historic moment for BYD, as we witness the roll off the production line of our 5 millionth new energy vehicle”said Wang Chuanfu, Chairman of BYD: “On this special occasion, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our customers around the world for their confidence in our products, to our industry partners for this shared journey together, and to each of our employees whose hard work and dedication have made this landmark possible. »
The 5 millionth model is a Denza N7a new 100% electric premium SUV designed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, and offering some 700 km of range thanks to a 91 kWh Blade battery.
BYD took no less than 13 years to produce its first million electric vehicles, but only another 18 months to cross the three million mark. Today, the pace of production of the Chinese manufacturer has greatly accelerated, and it only took 9 additional months to reach the milestone of five million electric vehicles products.
In 2022, BYD’s electric vehicles saw remarkable growth, with total sales exceeding 1.86 million units. In 2023, BYD accumulated no less than 1.5 million sales from January to July, including 92,469 copies sold overseas, thus exceeding the total overseas sales for the whole of 2022. July 2023, BYD’s worldwide electric vehicle sales exceeded 4.8 million units cumulatively.
Since 2010, BYD has been expanding worldwide, especially with its range of electric buses and taxis, which are operational in more than 400 cities from over 70 countrieswhile BYD’s electric vehicles are now marketed in more than 54 countries. Last month, BYD announced plans to build three new factories in Brazil to support its growth.
Since its creation in 1995, BYD has always been at the forefront of technological advances: we owe the Chinese group many innovations, such as Blade batteries which aim to make batteries more efficient and durable. In 2022, BYD has invested more than 2 billion euros in research and development, with a strong R&D team of more than 90,000 employees, and more than 40,000 patents filed worldwide.
