Is Tesla’s German factory a real flop?

The American company Tesla is opening its Gigafactory all over the world. It would seem that the one which opened in Germany recently does not achieve its production objectives.

The objective of the Berlin Gigafactory is clear: produce always more vehicles per week. But is it really realistic? Despite the American manufacturer’s desire to make its German plant even more “giga”, it is clear that almost a year after the start of production (March 2022), the plant has not yet reached its cruising speed.

A lack of staff?

It would seem that the Tesla factory in Germany is suffering from a serious lack of qualified personnel. In fact, it would even seem that the entire automotive industry German feels this lack. In any case, this is what the chairman of the works council of BMW, Martin Kimmichtold our German colleagues toautomobile week.

The latter specifies that the time when the German automobile industry was overwhelmed with candidates is gone since a long time. He specifies that the BMW group also observes a drop in the number of candidates.

Untenable goals?

Elon Muskthe sulphurous boss of the Tesla brand, had however been clear with his teams. Twenty million vehicle sales per year and not one less. It could be that in the end these objectives are simply not feasible. Especially if we compare them to the competition.

Indeed, let’s go back a bit. At beginning of the year 2023. The time had then come to take stock of the numbers of sales of new vehicles for the year 2022. The group Toyota had recorded 10,483,024 sales over this period when the group Volkswagen accounted for 8 262 800. Even adding up the sales of Toyota and of Volkswagen, we’re not even reaching Tesla’s goal.

Do you find this hilarious? We’ll let you judge for yourself. In the meantime, we will wait until the end of 2023 to make a with.

A brake on production

The objective for this German factory, in the long term, was to produce up to 500,000 electric vehicles per yeari.e. more than 9,600 vehicles per week. As it stands, it would seem that the German factory is not able to produce 5,000 vehicles par week. The objective would even have been revised downwards with 4,350 vehicles to be released per week.

Now let’s see how this will all evolve. Only the future will tell us.
