For Nissan in Europe, the strategic partnership forged with Renault in 1999 (and the Renault-Nissan alliance, now Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi), has made it possible to create numerous synergies, for the sharing of platforms, technologies, and even complete models. Renault Mégane and Nissan Tiida, Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoé, Qashqai and Kadjar, X-Trail and Koleos… The two allies experienced a development hand in hand, which was beneficial to both of them. Also in utility vehiclesthe partnerships are old. Interstar/Master in 1999, Primastar/Traffic in 2001 and finally Kangoo/Cubistar in 2003. This is still the case today. After a brief period NV250, NV300 and NV400, the trio of Nissan utilities is now called Townstar, Primastar et Interstar. Traditionally, Renault launches its new model first, and Nissan follows a few months later. The latest is the Kangoo of course! The new Townstar followed in 2022.
It is now 4.49m long, 21cm longer than the NV250 it replaces. As usual, it maximizes interior space, and has plenty of cleverly thought-out storage. Two sliding doors are offered as standard on the particular version. Under the hood, the third Townstar of the name inherits thermal and electric engines. The petrol supply is provided by the 1.3 TCe block of 100 and 130 horsepower. Unlike its Renault counterpart, however, it ignores diesel… In electric, the Kangoo E-Tech inherits a 120 horsepower motor and a 45 kWh battery. What to announce a autonomy of 320 kilometers en cycle WLTP.
So far, the Townstar was only available in one body length, known as L1. Today, an extended version called L2 has been added to the catalog, based on the Kangoo Maxi. It has just appeared on the Nissan configurator. She gains 42 centimeters more, and sees her length thus increased to 4.91m. Its loading volume is now between 4.3 and 4.9m3. It’s 1m3 more than on the short version. This long Townstar must however be satisfied with a single engine in thermal. In the person of the 1.2L of 130 horsepower. The EDC dual-clutch gearbox is not available on this version. Count 25,150€ in gasoline, or 750 euros more than the Kangoo L2. The electric version starts at €33,500 in electric.
