This is short-term car rental, which has taken a big hit this year due to rising prices.

A sharp drop

And the latter is not really very glorious for professionals in the sector, since the results are very mixed. If a few years ago, the demand was very high to the point of creating shortages, the decline in purchasing power forced motorists to turn to less expensive alternatives. And it shows in the numbers. Compared to the same period last year, rentals fell by 10%. And the cause is to be found on the side of the price increase, of 48% between 2021 and 2022 due to the shortage of new cars.

An astonishing fact

Compared to 2019, the last year before the health crisis, reservations for rental cars have tumbled 50%. A huge number! According to Carigami, “the increase in train and plane tickets discouraged many holidaymakers, who ultimately did not rent a car and turned to more accessible holidays with their private car”. It should be noted that for the first time, rentals in Corsica have fallen sharply, which has never happened since 2018. This corroborates the remarks previously cited.
