The British manufacturer unveils the Rolls-Royce Amethyst Droptail, a tailor-made creation for its client, and inspired by the amethyst gemstone.
Rolls-Royce has just unveiled a new achievement from its Coachbuild Design department, which specializes in the custom-made creation of unique and exclusive models, which go well beyond customization work on an existing model. After the Sweptail, the Boat Tail and the “La Rose Noire” Droptail, here comes the Rolls-Royce Amethyst Droptail.
It is one of four unique examples of the Rolls-Royce Droptailordered by a customer whose anonymity has been preserved, but who is presented by the British firm as being a “patron whose family business grew from a gemstone boutique to a multinational corporation with diverse interests”. The wealthy owner took delivery of his new car at a private event in Gstaad, Switzerland.
The Coachbuild signed model has been inspired by the amethyst gemstone, an enduring symbol of purity, clarity and resilience, and also celebrates the cultural heritage of its client’s home region. Rolls-Royce teams were also inspired by the Globe Amaranth wildflower, which blooms in the desert near one of its owner’s homes.
We discover a two-tone paint which combines a purple “Globe Amaranth” shade with a silver undertone, complemented by fine flecks of powdered aluminum that reflect light and create an iridescent finish. On the upper part of the car, a dark Amethyst Purple contrast paint embeds a mixture of red, blue and purple mica flakes which together create a unique color with subtle metallic shimmers.
This color is also found inside the 22-inch wheels, while inserts in carbon fiber were made to measure for the occasion, with a subtle amethyst-tinted finish. The grille is also unique, with a hand-polished treatment, while the lower front air intake is made of 202 polished stainless steel ingots and hand-painted in Globe Amaranth.
Inside, we discover a selection of noble materials with several wood species, associated with Amethyst purple leather contrasting with brown “Sand Dunes” leather. Found on the Amethyst Droptail the most extensive wooden surface in the history of Rolls-Roycebut the firm went even further, integrating rare amethyst gemstones into the car’s rotating dials, as well as the figurine of the Spirit of Ecstasy.
In a small niche made especially for this purpose on the dashboard, we find a unique watch, ordered by the customer from the famous Swiss fine watchmaking house: Vacheron Constantin. baptized “Les Cabinotiers Armillary Tourbillon”this piece of goldsmithery matching the colors of the interior was handcrafted in Geneva, and can be removed from its support in order to wear it on the wrist, or keep it outside the car.
