In July 2023, Tesla’s electric pickup, the Cybertruck, had nearly two million reservations. But how many will go to the end?
With an average of about 1,000 pre-orders per day over the past two yearsthis electric behemoth has maintained a fairly impressive level of popularity since its announcement in 2019. In July 2023, the Californian firm had no less than two million reservations.
Although its unique design, marked by bold angles and geometric cutouts, divides opinion, the Cybertruck has managed to capture attention and pique the interest of customers. Data provided by financial analytics platform Finbold revealed that the exact number of bookings stood at 1,943,876.
Compared to the May 2021 tally, which already showed 1,084,200 pre-orders, these current figures reflect a meteoric growth of almost 80%. This positive trend is also supported by Tesla’s 2022 delivery figures, where the company passed the milestone of one million electric vehicles delivered worldwide for the first time. totaling precisely 1,313,851 units.
However, it is important to remain cautious about these staggering figures. Experience has shown that reservations do not always translate into concrete sales. Moreover, pay between $40,000 and $50,000 to afford this electric pick-up is not within the reach of all consumers initially reserving the vehicle.
The Cybertruck presents itself as a break with the conventions of standard pick-ups, which greatly contributes to its media buzz. Its impressive features, such as an estimated battery life of approximately 800 kilometers and towing capacities varying between 3,400 and 6,300 kilograms, allow it to compete with the best models in the category.
As for the production of the Cybertruck, after long fueling speculation and uncertainty, there are promising signs that manufacturing has finally begun. Nine models of the Cybertruck were seen mounted on trucks traveling towards the Tesla factory in Fremont, California.
This factory, located near Tesla’s design headquarters in Palo Alto, is also responsible for manufacturing models such as the Model S, the Model 3 and the Model Y. However, mystery remains as to whether these are pre-production prototypes or production models.
