Fuel: diesel consumption down this summer

Motorists have consumed significantly less diesel than before during the summer holidays according to figures from specialists.

Especially since many companies have decided to bring everyone back to the office full-time. Which is then synonymous with greater fuel costs. But this summer too, demand was very strong, while prices have risen sharply in all of France. To the point of exceeding the bar of 2.70 euros per liter in some service stations. And unfortunately it’s not over yet. But not all fuels are in the same boat.

The decline of diesel

Indeed, some seem to be less appreciated than others. This is for example the case of diesel, which is less and less on the rise in France. Indeed, we know that sales of electric cars have already exceeded those of cars running on diesel. But that’s not all. Indeed, according to specialists, the demand for diesel is also falling sharply. Over the first seven months of the year, this engine represented only 10.4% of sales new cars, compared to 16.4% over the same period last year. But that’s not all. Because it is also felt at the pump.

Declining demand

Indeed, sector specialists explain that the demand for diesel delivery to service stations was down 1.9% compared to July 2022. Thus, it is back below 70%, which had not happened for many years. At the same time, demand for unleaded increased by 5.2%. It remains to be seen whether this fall will be lasting or whether it is just a bad patch for diesel, which nevertheless remains slightly cheaper than gasoline at the service station. For now.
