Production of the VW T-Roc at the Setubal plant in Portugal is stopped due to a lack of components.
“Volkswagen was forced to stop production of the T-Roc in the Setubal plant because of a shortage of components for the engine”, announces the German press agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA), which is based on an internal memo received by the 5,000 workers at the site. According to this note, it is a lack of components for the engine which is in question. The production shutdown is expected to last several weeksand restart during the first half of this month of September.
According to the DPA agency, other models may also be affected. The problem would come from one of Volkswagen’s suppliers in Slovenia, impacted by the floods which affected the country. Since many other models are using the same engines and are based on the same chassis as the T-Roc, other factories in the group could experience the same fate in the coming weeks. Volkswagen factories of course, but also other models based on the same technical basis from Seat, Audi or Skoda.
The T-Roc, which has just been restyled, has become the Volkswagen’s best-selling vehicle in Europe last year, according to data compiled by the specialized company JATO Dynamics, with 231,000 units sold. A confirmed success in the first half of this year, since 111,692 copies have already been soldmuch more than the former best-seller of the brand, and of Europe, the Golf, now at the bottom of the Top 10 with its 88,574 sales.
