Mercedes confirms the arrival of a “small” G-Class

The little brother of the Mercedes G-Class is on the way. We have known for months that the Stuttgart firm is working on this novelty and, at the Munich Motor Show, Mercedes says a little more by unveiling a first image.

Mercedes plans to compete with Land Rover’s future “small” Defender

On this occasion, Ola Källenius, the chairman of the board of directors of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and director of Mercedes-Benz, declared that it would be electric and “that it would be excellent off-road and immediately recognizable”.

The first rumors about the possible arrival on the market of the little brother of the G-Class appeared in February 2023. As we had already mentioned, the “baby G” should arrive on the new MMA platform from Mercedes, the very one which, from 2024, will be used for the future CLA, CLA Shooting Brake, GLA and GLB. This model should be a direct response to Land Rover, which should present a small Defender next year.

A little brother for the future EQG

But the small G-Class will not be the only important off-road electric novelty from the Stuttgart firm. Indeed, at the beginning of 2024, Mercedes should lift the veil on the highly anticipated EQG, the 100% electric version of the G-Class equipped with four electric motors.

The Mercedes EQG will also be equipped with super batteries with silicon anode and, from 2025, the electric version of the off-roader will have the innovative Sila batteries with a density of 800 Wh/l as an option.
