On the sidelines of the Munich Motor Show, Mini is unveiling its new generation of Cooper, with two electric versions that are as interesting as they are attractive.
For its fourth and now previous generation, Mini offered a 100% electric version for the first time. Expensive and with too low a range (less than 250 km in actual use), for this fifth and new generation, the British firm has revised its copy with not one, but two new 100% electric versions: the Cooper E and the Cooper SE.
Integrated into the new Mini family, the term “Cooper” is no longer limited to a simple designation of engine, but now encompasses all three- and five-door Mini models, as well as the Mini Cabrio. This development reflects the brand’s desire to redefine its range around electrification.
The iconic characteristics of the Mini remain intact with the classic round headlights and the iconic octagonal grille that mark the front of the vehicle.
The Mini Cooper E is equipped with an electric motor of 184 hp and 290 Nm, allowing the car to reach 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. The Mini Cooper SE is slightly more powerful with 218 hp and 330 Nm, for a 0 to 100 km/h shot in 6.7 seconds. The announced autonomy is 305 kilometers for the Mini Cooper E according to the WLTP cycle and 402 kilometers for the Mini Cooper SE.
This difference in terms of autonomy is explained by the presence of two batteries of different capacities. The Mini Cooper E is equipped with a battery pack with a capacity of 40,7 kWhwhile the SE receives an accumulator of 54,2 kWh.
The interior of the new Mini stands out with its minimalist and digital design. The clean dashboard and the multifunction steering wheel recall the codes of the brand. The gear lever has been removed to free up storage space between the front seats.
The central OLED screen is 24 cm in diameter and incorporates an intelligent personal assistant, activated by the words “Hey Mini”, enough to control several functions thanks to voice command. Under the screen, we find a “toggle bar” with five buttons, strategically placed under the circular screen, which brings together all the essential driving functions.
The reinvented interior of the car receives elaborate textile surfaces from a special weaving process. Seven “Mini Experience Modes” bring a dynamic atmosphere to the cabin, while special light projections extend the colors of the screen onto the dashboard.
The new interior experience comes with a commitment to the environment: Cooper Electric’s leather upholsteries are made from synthetic elements, and textiles, stitching and dashboard surfaces are made from recycled materials.
Four different trim levels – Essential, Classic, Favored and JCW – will be offered in the catalog. The French prices will be revealed within the next few weeks.
