Hyundai’s small flagship city car benefited from a slight restyling a few months ago, which made it evolve stylistically and technologically. We now know its prices, which are up slightly.
It is a model that acts as an outsider with us, in a category already saturated by competition. The Hyundai i20, a small city car launched in 2009, has to face major rivals in the B segment, first in France in terms of sales and second on the European market. Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, Citroën C3, Dacia Sandero among the French. But also Race, Polo, Fabia, SwiftColt, Yaris, Micra… Not easy for the Korean city dweller to mark her territory! Its third and latest generation, launched in 2020, is however not exempt from qualities, and offers a differentiating proposition, less standardized than its rivals. Few months ago, Hyundai made it go through the restyling box…
The “paw” of the i20 is its dynamic look and sharp lines which are part of the continuity of the stylistic language of Hyundai. The designers went sparingly for this refresh, but bumpers, headlamps and grille appear more tapered than before. It’s also very light at the rear, with most of the changes being made to the diffuser, which has been slightly modified. However, it retains its characteristic Z-shaped light signature. Three new body colors added to the catalogue: Lucid Lime Metallic (yellow, pictured), Lumen Gray Pearl (grey) and Meta Blue Pearl (blue).
On board, it’s quite light too. The endowment has grown a 4.2-inch instrument cluster as standard, USB-C ports, and new driver assistance features in addition to map updates. To train all these beautiful people, this restyled i20 can count on the same blocks previously offered : a 48V micro-hybrid gasoline 100 or 120 horsepower, always associated with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic. The more classic and small block 1.2L of 84 horses of entry level is also always proposed.
The range revolves around the same finishes, called Initia, Intuitive, Creative et Executive. And its prices? They start at €18,600 for the Initia, up from the current version but this must be countered by the provision of richer equipment. It is positioned as slightly more expensive than the restyled Renault Clio, which is less well equipped and motorized. Will that be enough to get her back in the game?
