The Chinese manufacturer GAC confirms its arrival in Europe

He already had a stand at the Paris Motor Show in 2018, but never came to us. GAC, a major Chinese public builder, has just unveiled its ambitions for its arrival in Europe, which is imminent.

It was in 2018. A car manufacturer then unknown to us proudly sat on one of the stands of the Paris Motor Show. A name, a logo, and unfamiliar models appeared: GAC, pour Guangzhou Automobile Company. The context of the time was not that of today – Chinese manufacturers had their beginnings stammering in Europe – so that this presence was anything but trivial. GAC is a large state builder, in the same way as SAIC, Dongfeng or FAW. A company that wants to be the standard-bearer of China’s automotive (and industrial) boom. But unlike its counterparts, GAC is not the most advanced builder when it comes to international export.

1551: GAC to conquer the Old Continent

The group is mainly present in emerging markets: Asia, Middle East and Africa in particular. Through its Aion and Trumpchi brands, it markets sedans, crossovers, SUVs and minivans, which have nothing to do with the early models. The group has taken in recent years an unprecedented stylistic and technological shift, and can finally hope to compete with the world’s big brands, making a breakthrough in the world’s major markets. Among them : Europe of course, which GAC intends to integrate very soon. These ambitions translate into a new strategic plan which has just been unveiled, called “1551”.

4 main pillars of development

The first objective of this “New Heights” plan, the famous “1”, is to sell 500,000 vehicles internationally by 2030. In particular, it is a matter of prioritizing “5” markets with high potential : Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Russia/CIS. To succeed“5” axes of development based on the internationalization of the group, the launch of global models, production closer to the markets, the complementarity of services (purchase-sales, after-sales and financing solutions) and a greener approach in the production cycle. Finally, create more synergies between the group’s projects and teams, spread across the world. Objective : become a structured and organized global player. Nothing really specific for the time being, but ambitions assumed and displayed. The first models, most likely from the Aion brandcould arrive in our latitudes as early as next year.
